AI answers, with your own key

Optional: Claude from Anthropic, or a model through OpenRouter, such as DeepSeek or Gemini. You pay the provider directly; a question usually costs a fraction of a cent, researching a call about 6 cents with Claude. With a Claude key, it can also research who you're meeting and add a short brief.

Nothing is sent until you add a key and allow it. The privacy policy says what is sent, and to whom.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. AnswerPrompter will be free on the Mac App Store, with no account, no subscription and nothing to buy in the app. AI answers are optional and use your own key, which you pay the provider for.

Do I need an AI key?

No. Without one, you see the line of your notes that matches the question, found on your Mac, and nothing leaves it. With a key, answers come in 5 to 9 words you can read aloud, and when your notes don't cover a question about you or your offer, it says so rather than inventing a number.

What does an AI key cost?

You pay the provider directly, at its prices. A question usually costs a fraction of a cent; researching a call, about 6 cents with Claude.

What is sent, and to whom?

Nothing until you add a key and allow it. Then your notes and, when the other side asks a question or mentions your notes, or you press Answer Now, the last minute of the call's transcript go to the provider you chose. Research before a call sends who the call is with and your notes to Anthropic, whichever provider answers. Never audio. See the privacy policy.

Does it answer my own questions?

No. It answers the questions the other side asks, heard through the call's audio. What you say into your microphone is transcribed too, to know what was asked and answered, but questions you ask aren't answered.

Does it record audio?

No. Speech is transcribed on your Mac as it is heard, and audio is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The call's text is kept in memory while AnswerPrompter runs, and goes when you quit.

Do I need to tell the people on the call?

Yes. AnswerPrompter transcribes everyone on the call, and with an AI key their words go to your provider too. Tell the people on your call, and get their consent where the law requires it.

Which languages and Macs?

English, Spanish and Turkish, on a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later.

What about a Mac without a notch?

On a display without a notch, the answer sits at the top centre of the screen.

No answers appear.

Check the menu bar icon's menu: it says whether AnswerPrompter is listening to the call and to you. If it can't hear the call, turn on AnswerPrompter in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording. Answers need notes, or an AI key.

The people on my call can see the answer.

Hiding depends on how each app captures the screen. Tell us which app and how you share, and try the other way in the meantime.
